What Is Glassblowing?
Glassblowing is an ancient technique to form glass by inflating molten glass into a bubble using a blowpipe. This practice is almost three thousand years old. Even though the tools and equipment used to create the glass figurines have evolved, the basic technique remains the same. There are various ways to create different glass shapes and types, but the primary ingredients remain unchanged. In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, it’s truly magical to go back in time and explore this unique and ancient technique to create wondrous works of art.
What Can You Expect at Black Hills Glass Blowers? Gail Damin and Pete Hopkins create glass art at the studio by using blowpipes to gather molten glass. They use a 2000-degree furnace to melt the glass to create these art pieces. They blow and mold the glass to create a wide array of striking bowls, vases, goblet, and paperweights in various shapes and colors.
The two experts also create numerous lampwork art pieces, such as figurines, flowers, animals, ships, cake tops, motorcycles, and ornaments, using a torch to melt glass tubes and rods. The blowing and shaping time depend entirely on the complexity of the object and its size.
At the studio, you will get to see the lamp work technique and blowing process in real-time. You can also browse through the gorgeous selection of art glass and lamp work figurines displayed on the aisles and choose an art piece that resonates with you.
The studio offers you different styles of art with a wide price range. You can select your piece, and the studio will pack it for travel. Alternatively, you can choose to have it mailed to you. You can either proudly display it at your home or gift it to a loved one!
